Introducing the Shogo EV
Challenged to think up an idea more powerful than a charity donation - our answer - Project Courage, a national initiative aimed at reducing stress and anxiety for children in the hospital.
For Project Courage, we created the Honda Shogo, a small electric vehicle made just for kids in hospitals that allows them to drive themselves down the hallways to their treatments, turning what could be a stressful journey into a fun ride.
To bring the Honda Shogo to life required a collaboration between a team of engineers at American Honda Motor Company and a team of medical professionals at Children’s Health Orange County (CHOC). Each feature of the Shogo was built around the specific needs of hospitalized children.
This is only the beginning for Project Courage. More vehicles are being rolled out across the country this year as Honda remains committed to improving the lives of young patients.

“R vs R” Augmented Reality Race
A mixed reality race between real and virtual
To launch the Type R in the U.S., we held a one-of-a-kind race that bridged two diverse fan bases: racing enthusiasts and gamers. R vs. R was a mixed reality race between a real Type R driven by a pro IndyCar driver, Graham Rahal, and a virtual Type R driven by a pro gamer, Peter Jeakins.

How did we do it?
First, Jeakins recorded his fastest lap time in a virtual Type R at the Road Atlanta race track in Microsoft Forza Motorsport 7. Then at the actual Road Atlanta, pro IndyCar driver Graham Rahal raced a real Type R against Jeakins' virtual one.
To make the race possible, the real Type R was outfitted with a custom AR windshield. It used data from several sources, including Microsoft Forza, Google Earth, and GPS data, and turned it all into a simple visualization that let Rahal see the gamer's position on the track in real time. The worlds of real motorsport and racing simulation were merged like never before.

“Candy Cane Lane” VR Experience
Watch the film here.
We surprised Children’s Health Orange County (CHOC) pediatric patients with a bright and colorful Candy Cane Lane, made entirely in virtual reality.
Inside VR, each child got a 360° experience of seeing elaborate holiday light displays, with a firework finale and a surprise gift from Santa.
Because the holidays are a season all about giving, the Candy Cane Lane effort also gave Honda's philanthropic followers the chance to make a difference by helping donate a total of $100,000 to both charities (Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and CHOC) through a simple "like" of a Facebook post.

“The Ultimate Get Well Card” AR Experience
For the holidays, we created the "Ultimate Get Well Card" AR experience, filled with messages from well-wishers around the country and personalized for pediatric patients at the Children’s Health Orange County (CHOC).
We transformed an actual CHOC hospital room into a winter wonderland in order to bring to life crowdsourced messages from well-wishers that young patients viewed through an iPad, held in a custom designed holder, triggering an augmented reality experience.
For every Facebook 'like' or 'love' of the video, Honda donated $1 each up to a total of $100,000, to both CHOC and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF).
